CareFlight's Remote Trauma Course, co-sponsored by Viva Energy, enhances lifesaving skills in remote communities, fostering resilience and positive change for improved emergency response capabilities.

In a collaborative effort to enhance emergency response capabilities and empower individuals in remote communities, Viva Energy proudly announces its co-sponsorship of the Remote Trauma Course (RTC) hosted by CareFlight in Katherine, in the Northern Territory on 5 March 2024.
CareFlight, a distinguished provider of aeromedical services, has been at the forefront of delivering educational excellence through highly specialised, evidence-based practical workshops for over a decade. The RTC, a testament to CareFlight's commitment to saving lives, not only imparts essential lifesaving skills but also fosters a culture of preparedness and resilience within remote communities.

The course, developed specifically to address trauma incidents in areas with limited access to immediate medical assistance, provides participants with hands-on training using lifelike medical mannequins, simulated accident scenarios, and specially designed simulation equipment.
Lara Miller, Head of Operations – Education and Training at CareFlight, said: "Our Remote Trauma Course is not just about imparting skills; it is about fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience within remote communities."

What sets this course apart is its focus on inclusivity and cultural sensitivity. The recent RTC in Katherine not only tackled typical trauma scenarios encountered in the Territory but also incorporated interactive learning methods like storytelling and yarning circles to resonate with participants from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Local clinic staff in Katherine expressed gratitude for the course, stating: "This course went beyond imparting knowledge; it instilled confidence and empowered us to be effective first responders in our communities."

Viva Energy has enthusiastically joined as a co-sponsor for the RTC and extended its support to various other community courses, demonstrating a commitment to supporting positive change, including initiatives in the Northern Territory such as CareFlight's Sick and Injured Kids in the Bush and Infant Care Workshop.
Jo Powell, Community Manager at Viva Energy, stated: "We are proud to partner with CareFlight in their mission to enhance emergency response capabilities in remote communities. This collaboration aligns with Viva Energy’s commitment to support initiatives that improve access to community services, particularly in remote locations where access to healthcare resources can be challenging."

Viva Energy's long-standing support for CareFlight includes being the main fuel supplier and naming rights partner for the CareFlight NT Rescue Helicopter. They have also been dedicated supporters of the Indigenous Employment Pathway Traineeship Program and scholarship initiatives.
Both CareFlight and Viva Energy remain steadfast in their commitment to driving positive change and fostering partnerships that empower individuals and communities to thrive, especially in remote regions.
