Discover your true potential

We are a company that is driven by our people: to us this means creating an environment where people have purposeful work, are challenged to grow, feel valued and connected to our company, and are inspired by what we deliver as a team.

Purpose

Feel good about what you do

At Viva Energy, each of us has an important role to play. Our work is meaningful and matters - we help people reach their destinations! We learn and test new ideas through innovation and experimentation and our goal plans are designed to stretch us and provide growth. Our behaviours of Better Together, Deliver Amazing Results and Customer Obsessed define how we work with each other, how we think about our challenges and opportunities, and how we deliver our plans.

We have achieved some great results including acquiring Shell’s Aviation business; introducing a market-leading logistics scheduling tool; building the largest crude oil tank in Australia; launching Shell V-Power Diesel, and implemented a variety of projects to maintain and modernise our Geelong refinery.

We are proud of our commitment to our local communities where we are working to create positive social change in the areas of mental health, Indigenous participation and substance misuse.

Supporting our communities

We partner with a number of community organisations who are also making a real difference. Working with our community partners creates fantastic opportunities for people from across our organisation to have a social impact both within and outside work.

Here are just some of the community partners we support:

  • The Cathy Freeman Foundation – our partnership empowers young Indigenous Australians from four remote communities to stay engaged in their schooling. Nine of our employees have visited Palm Island to see the difference the Cathy Freeman Foundation are making to young Indigenous lives.
  • National Aboriginal Sporting Chance Academy (NASCA) – our partnership focuses on delivering a resilience program in Western Sydney for 100 Aboriginal students. The program supports vulnerable young people by providing study support and mentoring, with the aim of improving participation in a range of educational, recreational and cultural activities.
  • The Council for Aboriginal Alcohol Program Services – we support school children recovering from substance misuse issues through a numeracy and literacy program.
  • Headspace – our employees mentor young people and our funding provides opportunities for training and skilling sessions for young people on topics such as leadership, facilitation and mental health first aid.

Connection

Be part of a team

Being driven by people means that you will have the power to make a real difference to our business. We believe great ideas come from everywhere – and everyone. Our structure makes it easy to talk to someone about an idea you have and to get things done. We employ great people who want to make a difference.

We work in teams and respect each other because as an integrated company, we’re genuinely better together. We believe different perspectives and teamwork deliver the best results. We make sure we recognise and celebrate our successes, because our people should feel proud of the amazing outcomes they achieve together.

And we also pride ourselves on our strong safety culture. At Viva Energy safety comes first, so we will always look out for one another.

Be valued for who you are

We believe diversity in the workplace is every bit as important as it is in everyday life. Our culture encourages us to be ourselves, we provide all of our people access to opportunities to develop on the job and in their careers, and our workplace culture which promotes diversity and inclusion attracts great people.

To support our gender equity aspirations, our CEO, Scott Wyatt, is a passionate Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) Pay Equity Ambassador, and helping to promote and improve gender equality as a Male Champion of Change.

Our approach and commitment to achieving gender diversity was recognised in 2018 with Viva Energy being acknowledged by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency as an Employer of Choice for Women. And we’re proud of our work to reduce our gender pay gap and have plans to progress this even further. We have recently become sponsors of the Geelong Football Club’s inaugural AFLW team supporting women’s football, and we encourage a number of networks to further our diversity agenda, including our first LGBTIQ+ Pride Committee.

Rewards, Benefits and Flexibility

We pay competitively to attract and retain great people, including opportunities for a generous annual incentive payment and above average superannuation, plus a discount on petrol. However, to us, the most important thing is that you love what you do. Because when you love what you do, it shows in your work. Our customers benefit and you get to enjoy a fulfilling career where your accomplishments are recognised and rewarded.

We see workplace flexibility as key to our future success. This means supporting our employees to balance their personal lives with their work commitments and ambitions. We are proud that we offer a variety of flexible working arrangements which fosters an environment where people feel their needs and aspirations are supported. These include part time, job share, time in lieu, telecommuting, carer’s leave, purchased leave, and unpaid leave.

To help our new parents, we offer a generous 14 weeks’ paid parental leave and a full-time superannuation payment for up to five years during unpaid parental leave and part-time work periods. We are proud to be the first Company in Australia to provide this to our employees.

We also partner with Grace Papers, an organisation that supports new parents as they try to manage their career and their family.
