Local sports sponsorships

We’ve been part of the Geelong community since 1954 and we’re proud to support the Geelong Football Club, which includes being a Premier Partner of their inaugural AFLW team. But we also support grassroots sporting clubs to help men, women and children stay active and healthy by participating in sport.

Community Support Grants

Each year we commit to help not-for-profit organisations implement projects that will benefit our heartland communities. Individual grants of up to $5,000 are offered for projects that have addressed a range of challenges, including breaking the poverty cycle through education, substance misuse and, more recently, recovering from COVID-19 setbacks.

Local Sourcing

Each year, the Geelong Refinery spends more than $190 million procurement, of which nearly half is spent on companies that are based predominately in Geelong or draw their labour from the Geelong region. Complementing this, 76 percent of the people who work at the refinery live locally.

Since 2014, the Geelong Refinery has provided opportunities for apprenticeships through Northern Futures. Of the 12 current apprentices, five came to us through Northern Futures.

Disaster relief

In January 2020 bushfires devastated many Australian farming communities that were already suffering the effects of long-term drought. Viva Energy contributed $500,000 to the national bushfire relief and recovery effort with direct donations to Blaze Aid and Rural Aid. Viva Energy also tripled the donations made by our generous people to a range of similar causes.
