Viva Energy Australia has joined 3,500,000 people from 100 countries complete Good Deeds all around the world. Good Deeds puts into practice the simple idea that every single person can do something good, be it large or small, to improve the lives of others and positively change the world.
2018 marked the third year that Viva Energy employees have been involved in this global initiative that supports local communities. From 9 to 15 April, more than 850 Viva Energy employees across Australia donated over 1,000 hours to participate in 1,054 good deeds. In one week alone, we raised almost $10,000 for a range of community organisations.
Viva Energy Chief Executive Officer, Scott Wyatt said, “I am thrilled that so many of our workforce chose to get involved in activities that help the local community as part of Good Deeds Week. Giving back to our local communities is at the heart of our broader Community Program so it is particularly rewarding to see our workforce embrace this initiative with such enthusiasm.”
Over the course of Good Deeds Week Viva Energy employees:
- Packed 10,000 White Ribbons and Blue Ribbons
- Donated 946 life giving treatments to the Australian Blood Bank and Australian Red Cross (from 43 donors)
- Ran 122 kilometres in a lap-a-thon raising money for White Ribbon
- Created 200 sanitary packs for the Period Project
- Purchased and assembled 54 "solar buddy" solar lights for children in developing countries whose homes have no electricity
- Knitted 5,400 rows to create blankets for the homeless
- Planted 120 trees and picked up rubbish
- Wove for 30 hours to make mats from recycled plastic bags for the homeless
- Collected hundreds of clothing, blankets and non-perishable items
- Made birthday cards for Pyjama Foundation and the Council for Aboriginal Alcohol Program Services
