Clyde Stack Update

21 Feb 2016

Viva Energy Australia (“Viva Energy”) advises that it will resume operations tomorrow to bring down its “stubborn stack”.

Viva Energy Engineering Manager, Vince Neville, said the strategy late this afternoon was to employ a series of smaller charges, which was determined to be the safest method.

“The demolition team, regulators and emergency services will reconvene tomorrow to detail plans to bring down the final stack,” said Vince.

“The stack has been thoroughly examined and it has been determined that, while weakened, it is stable and extremely unlikely to fall,” he said.

“This is one stubborn stack. Tomorrow we will work with our industrial neighbours to minimise impacts of any subsequent activity.

“The terminal has reopened and fuel supply continues.”
