Helping to fuel Queensland

Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Pinkenba Terminal supplies fuels, bitumen, oils and greases to commercial and retail customers throughout southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales.

The terminal has fuel storage for gasoline, jet fuel, diesel and LPG, a bitumen plant, a bulk lubricants plant, and road gantries where fuel products are loaded and supplied to customers by road tankers. Jet fuel is supplied to Brisbane Airport via a dedicated pipeline.

The majority of fuel products, solvents and LPG arrive by pipeline.

Pinkenba Terminal stores and handles significant quantities of fuels, lubricants and solvents and is therefore classified as a Major Hazard Facility under the Occupational Health and Safety (Major Hazard Facilities) Regulations (QLD) 2011.

Bulk lubricants

We opened a bulk oils and greases facility at Pinkenba Terminal in 2016. It is the largest in Australia, with a storage capacity of 3.2ML and can manage up to 30 lubricant grades. The bulk lubricants terminal is complemented by a third party lubricants warehouse.

Environmental compliance

We operate our Pinkenba Terminal in compliance with conditions set out in the Environmental Authority Permit issued by the Department of Environment and Science (DES).

We are required to meet all of the environmental conditions stipulated in the Environmental Authority Permit.

Prepared for emergencies

We have a comprehensive emergency response plan for Pinkenba Terminal that involves documented procedures, staff training, and maintaining a register of hazardous goods. We conduct regular emergency response exercises in conjunction with emergency service organisations to test our plans.

Site alarms

The alarms at Pinkenba Terminal are a vital way of ensuring that our people on-site respond to incidents quickly and safely.

There are two types of alarms:

General Alarm

30 seconds of an alarm with an alternating pitch. In the event of an incident, the general alarm will sound for one minute or longer.

All clear

30 seconds of continuous sounding of the siren. This signifies that the incident is under control.

The alarm is tested at 10am on the second Wednesday of every month. An alarm heard any other time means an on-site incident has occurred that requires attention by terminal personnel.

The community does not need to take action when an alarm sounds, unless instructed by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) or Police. In the event of an emergency please call 000.

In the community

Our Pinkenba Terminal is a member of the Gateway Mutual Aid Group (GMAG).

GMAG member organisations work together to help prevent incidents, and to mitigate any potential impact to the community and the environment in the event of a major emergency.

GMAG publishes an annual calendar to provide guidance on Community Emergency Response Steps. You can access the calendar here.

We also regularly attend meetings held by the Pinkenba Community Association, to provide updates about our operations and projects at the Pinkenba Terminal, and to answer questions from the community.
