One of Australia’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of quality fuels, Viva Energy Australia (“Viva Energy”), has today completed its purchase of Shell Aviation Australia for a total transaction value of approximately US $250 million.
Viva Energy chief executive officer, Scott Wyatt, said it was an exciting development for Viva Energy to directly supply airline customers in Australia and be part of a growing business that is so important for the economy.
“Australian airlines and regional airports need fuel suppliers who have a national supply chain, provide reliable service, and are prepared to invest in infrastructure to help them grow,” said Scott.
“Viva Energy is already well positioned to supply major metropolitan airports, as well as the 40 smaller airfields where we have refuelling infrastructure, but there is room to grow,” he said.
“With total air passenger numbers showing strong growth across Australia and internationally we are keen to explore further aviation supply opportunities in conjunction with Vitol Aviation.
“We have already committed to constructing additional jet fuel storage at our Newport Terminal in Melbourne, and upgrading our trucking facilities at our Geelong refinery in Victoria.
“With other industry suppliers, we also look forward to increasing jet fuel storage and pipeline capacity to Melbourne airport to support additional airline demand at one of the fastest growing airports in the country.
“Our fuel import terminal in Sydney’s west is well placed to offer a supply solution for the recently announced Western Sydney Airport, and we intend to be a supplier to our customers at this airport when it is opened.
“Our commitment to supporting regional areas is equally strong, with the development of jet fuel storage in Cairns to support the far-north Queensland market, and plans to further support other regional airfields where we will have strong presence.
“It’s certainly an exciting time and we look forward to working with our new airline customers and airports that we supply to support their respective growing businesses.”
Viva Energy is the exclusive licensee of the Shell brand for fuel distribution in Australia. In addition to its 950 plus Shell branded service station network and its Geelong Refinery (VIC), Viva Energy operates aviation, bulk fuels, bitumen, marine, chemicals and lubricants businesses supported by more than 20 storage terminals across the country.
Viva Energy supplies more than a third of Australia’s aviation fuel requirements. Geelong Refinery is the only manufacturer of Avgas in Australia, and one of only two producing this fuel in the Southern hemisphere.
