V8 Supercars legend, Dick Johnson, the Shell V-Power Racing Team drivers, Fabian Coulthard and Scott McLaughlin as well as Geelong Cats superstar, Andrew Mackie will all be appearing at the Viva Energy Geelong Refinery community Open Day on Sunday, August 13.
Refinery General Manager, Thys Heyns, said he’s excited to host the day and said it’s a rare chance for the community to gain an insight into refinery operations.
“I’m excited to show locals how the refinery team operates such a large and complex manufacturing facility to produce more than half of Victoria’s fuel,” said Thys.
“There will be more than 30 interactive booths that showcase all aspects of our operations, as well the important work our community partners such as headspace Youth Mental Health Foundation and Very Special Kids undertake.
“There’s an opportunity to meet the Shell V-Power Racing Team, including Supercars drivers Fabian Coulthard and Scott McLaughlin and race legend Dick Johnson.
“Andrew Mackie from the Geelong Cats will also make a special appearance as ambassador for Viva Energy’s new community sports program.”
Free entertainment for the kids is guaranteed with face painting, kids quiz with prizes, a photo booth (with pint-sized refinery uniforms), a colouring-in competition and card making (for Father’s Day).
Live entertainment will also be playing throughout the day including the hugely popular children’s band, The Mik Maks, Dazzling Dan the magician, as well as local acts The Kite Machine, The Alice Effect and the Northern Bay College band. Food is available for purchase from a wide variety of food trucks.
The event runs from 10.00am – 3.30pm in the refinery’s main car park (at the end of Refinery Road, Corio). Admission and car parking (in designated areas) is free.
Registration of attendance is preferred; however, it is not essential.
